Walking to the North End of Iona is worth the visit, experience the expansive views, white sands and aquamarine waters that inspired the Scottish Colourists.

Distance: 4.75 miles / 7.5 km

Time:  2 hours

Difficulty: Easy

From the Dun I signpost continue along the road for another 10minutes to the road end. Pass through two gates and onto grassland. Either walk diagonally to the right towards the East and White Strand of the Monks or straight on along the track until you come across the gate at the edge of the sand dunes. There is a perfectly placed bench here for having a rest or pondering the beauty of this stretch of beach. Descend to the beach on a sandy dune path.

From this point of entry at Triagh an t-Suidhe turning to your left takes you around the North West tip of Iona and those with an adventurous spirit can continue around to the Bay at the Back of the Ocean. There are no marked paths though and you will need to be aware the there are many fences to negotiate and not all have styles, but it is well worth the effort.
