This week, Arts Venues on the islands should watch out for an email inviting them to take part in the new Mull and Iona Arts Trail (MIAT). The Arts Trail, a map of arts venues that are open to the public, will be promoted via a new website planned to go live in May 2021.

Visit Mull and Iona are delighted to announce that they have received funding from “Scotland Loves Local” to establish an Art Trail showcasing the creative arts on Mull and Iona. Mull artist Alicia Hendrick has been retained by VMI to co-ordinate and deliver the project.

Our island artisan producers are facing new challenges from the lack of visitors and visitors are missing our islands, so the online shop was born. We have spotlighted five businesses and the measures they have taken to ensure that residents are safe and visitors have a great stay. They include visitor attraction, Ardalanish Weavers, Ross of Mull; Tobermory Campsite, Mull; Glengorm Castle, Mull; and the Argyll Hotel and Staffa Trips, both Iona.

Local Mull artists recently raised £500 for the island's Community Covid-19 Emergency Fund. Ronnie Leckie and Aska Marzec-Leckie from The Picture Gallery in Tobermory on Main Street donated an original Isle of Mull painting titled “Sunbeams Loch na Keal” and two prints of the painting from a limited edition of 75 to the island's Covid-19 emergency fund.

During the COVID-19 epidemic, the people of Mull and Iona have rallied together to help one another on a spectacular level.  Like the rest of the UK, the islands’ residents must stay at home, which is uniquely challenging compared to the mainland.  At present, due to the COVID-19 precautions, the ferries can only be accessed for essential services by locals as all non-essential travel is not permitted.
