Glasgow based folk trio ‘Assynt’ are former BBC Radio Scotland Young Musician of the Year finalists, Graham Mackenzie (fiddle) and David Shedden (pipes/whistles) alongside BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award winner Innes White (guitar/mandolin). Having performed together for many years, 2018 saw the official launch of the band and their debut album ‘Road to the North’. Predominantly compiled of self-penned tunes, the album draws upon influences from traditional Scottish fiddle and pipe music, in particular the Highland and Gaelic traditions.

Described by Folk Radio as “refreshingly contemporary”, their new release “marks them as one of our most impressive young bands.” Last year, the band performed at venues throughout Scotland with highlights including Piping Live, Blas and Celtic Connections.

Assynt have been recently named ‘Up and Coming Artist of the Year 2018’ at the Scots Trad Music Awards.
